Bug Description

Binary package hint: nethogs

After prolonged runs of nethogs I often get an assert failure which causes nethogs to exit. This has happened to me on two different machines, both running Ubuntu Hardy. Example:

NetHogs version 0.6.0

PID USER PROGRAM DEV SENT RECEIVED
24505 kjellrs transmission eth0 44.501 22.062 KB/sec
24668 kjellrs opera eth0 0.000 0.000 KB/sec
17632 kjellrs kopete eth0 0.000 0.000 KB/sec
0 root unknown 0.000 0.000 KB/sec

  TOTAL 44.501 22.062 KB/sec
nethogs: cui.cpp:29: Line::Line(const char*, double, double, int, uid_t, const char*): Assertion `m_uid >= 0' failed.

I don't know the reason for the assert failure since it seems this problem is fairly rare. However, if this is caused by some sort of lookup failure I would very much prefer it to just handle that somehow and keep running.

Ubuntu version:
8.04.1 (Hardy Heron)
Package:
nethogs/hardy uptodate 0.6.0-3

I think that the devs think this is fixed.

As the upstream author, I still don't quite see how this ever could be negative, but indeed nethogs was changed to only perform these checks when specifically asked for it.

I'd say this bug can be closed.
