Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

This is a very annoying bug if you will call it that. I use Rhythmbox to play my music CDs. When I'm done playing a CD, I eject the CD and put in another. However, when I go to click play to start the new CD, nothing happens. No sound. No nothing. I attached a screen shot to show you what I mean.

I am seeing similar behavior for rhythmbox.

after listing to a CD I eject the old one and put in a new one.
am prompted should i have rythmbox play the cd ( i say yes )
the cd is not highlighted as source but when selecting it I cannot
play it.

The interesting thing is if I choose a radio station ( it works ), then i can change back to listen to the CD.

my environment is as follows

lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release: 8.10

uname -a
Linux dock-laptop 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 21:57:00 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

apt-cache policy rhythmbox
rhythmbox:

Not sure if this is interesting or not, but I did a fresh install of 8.04 and later upgrade to 8.10.

could you also point at what time you insered the new CD and tried to play a song in the log?

Why can't I play the CD ? The problem is that it is almost as if some internal value says that the CD isn't there or isn't ready. I press the play icon and nothing happens, no error message, nothing. select another track and press play nothing.

I did manage to work around this by selecting a norwegian radio station, listening for a second or two, then switching back to the audio cd. At that point, I was able to play the CD.

I use 8.10 as a Live User on a stock HP m7747c desktop. I boot from the DVD-ROM drive and try to play an audio CD from the CDRW drive. Ubuntu recognizes the drive, the WAV files, and displays a musical JJ icon for each file. Double clicking on the file launches RhythmBox but nothing happens.
