Bug Description

Binary package hint: transmission

Transmission should have the option to preallocate space needed for torrent downloads for two reasons.

1. you could potentially run out of disk space over time while downloading the torrent without realizing you need the extra space for it.

2. it causes MASSIVE fragmentation. running 'filefrag' on some downloaded torrents ranged from 32frag/MB to 90frag/MB that is per MEGABYTE not for the file overall.

Hmm, it also appears that Transmission does not use launchpad-integration so I had to file this bug via the web submit option. Sorry for having two bugs in this one bug report...

Chris: In the interim until this is fixed in an Ubuntu package, you might want to try out the patch in upstream ticket #849, which implements this.
