Bug Description

Binary package hint: gimp

i know that the release for this version just happened today, and pretty much it improves functionality of gimp a lot along with fixing various bugs. oh and as a quick note, the dependencies changed a bit... here's a quick list of what is not in the repositories...

GEGL http://www.gegl.org/ ( latest version, 0.0.18 )
babl http://www.gegl.org/babl/ (latest version, 0.0.22 )

and as a quick note, i'm currently testing the source version they have to see if it works properly, with all dependencies (including optional) met for GEGL and babl on Ubuntu 8.04.

Both gegl and babl are in the repositories in intrepid, with the version numbers you specified. One problem might be that they are in universe while gimp is in main, so these two would need to be promoted to main as well.

I've been testing the 2.5 releases forever. It's extremely stable, I like it very much, and I'd LOVE to see it in intrepid.

It would be very cool to see this version in Intrepid, Ubuntu is about having the latest software after all.

the update will consider after intrepid beta, the uploads are frozen for now, and no ubuntu is not about having the new versions but about provide a good user experience

Offcourse, but I think with the new version of the GIMP, this is the case. I was referring to this quote that is on the ubuntu.com website. GIMP 2.6 is definitely the latest and greatest version.

"We issue a new desktop and server release every six months. That means you'll always have the latest and greatest applications that the open source world has to offer. "

the new version is being worked if somebody wants to give an hand to get the new version in intrepid writting the mir for the new libraries requirement would be useful though

gegl and babl was included into Baltix 2008 repositories, so, I can include GIMP 2.6.x if someone still uses Ubuntu 8.04 based distributions :)
