Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu intrepid (development branch)
Release: 8.10

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ apt-cache policy systemsettings
systemsettings:
  Installed: 4:4.1.1-0ubuntu3
  Candidate: 4:4.1.1-0ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 4:4.1.1-0ubuntu3 0
        500 http://archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I booted a Dell D600 from a Kubuntu Intrepid Ibex alpha 5 CD.
I launched System Settings, and opened Date & Time.
The current local timezone setting was /etc/localtime (UTC).
I selected the timezone list, typed "w", continued to scroll down until "Winnipeg" was visible, and selected it.
Finally, I clicked the Apply button.

I expected the time zone display to change, and thought the panel clock might change the time displayed as well.

What happened instead was ... nothing. The clock in the System Settings window stopped updating, and the Apply button remained in the depressed state. When I switched out and back into the System Settings window, the obscured areas did not refresh. When I closed the window, KWin warned
Window with title "Date & Time - System Settings" is not responding. This window belongs to application systemsettings (PID=8720, hostname=localhost)

This is happening due to an issue in kdesudo, where it doesn't actually terminate and thus it doesn't unlock parent processes.

AFAIK this issue is addressed in latest kdesudo source, not yet published though

I am seeing this with KDE 4.1.2 on Kubuntu 8.04 amd64 - I'm trying to set it to use NTP to set my date/time. Check the box, hit apply, and it freezes. I terminated the process, then tried Alt-F2, and that crashed. What's going on?
