Bug Description

Binary package hint: gedit

Description: Ubuntu intrepid (development branch)
Release: 8.10

gedit:
  Installed: 2.23.90-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.23.90-0ubuntu1
  Version table:

I was saving a new file to a Secure WebDav server and gedit hung and then crashed. It's nice to have davs functionality back (from 8.04) though!

thanks for your report, can you still reproduce this with gvfs 2.23.91-0ubuntu1 and gedit 2.23.91? thanks.

Yes, it still crashes. does not ask to submit a bug report anymore though.

It is only caused when saving a new file, not by saving an edited file if that helps.

Just another side point: If I try to create a new file called test.php on the davs server through nautilus ([rt. click]->create document->empty file) it gives me the error: "The item could not be renamed -- Sorry could not rename "new file" to "test.php". The specified location is not mounted". In the nautilus window, there is now a file called "new file". If i click on reload at the top of the screen, "new file" is gone and "test.php" has appeared. gedit may be struggling with the same sort of thing here and not know how to handle the error--just my guess.

question from upstream:

"can you run from the terminal

GEDIT_DEBUG=1 gedit

reproduce the bug and paste the debugging log here?
"

just submit the resulting log file to launchpad and i'll submit it upstream, thanks in advance.

attached.

messes up my gnome-terminal after crash; seems like it switched the encoding to a completely different one based in symbols (you can see it at the bottom of the file)

The item could not be renamed.
Sorry, could not rename "new file.txt2" to "new file.txt": The specified location is not mounted

however, access through the command line:
$ cd ~/.gvfs/WebDAV\ on\ newyork/
$ mv new\ file.txt new\ file.txt2

worked just fine.
