Bug Description

I disabled the "edit hackergotchi" link in Person and Team context menus.

From reading the code, people are not allowed to edit their own hackergotchi. Only administrators are. There is no doctest for this, or specification explaining how hackergotchis are supposed to work, so it is not clear what the intention is.

Many people have been asking why they can't edit their hackergotchi. Rather than present them with a menu item they can't use, I've disabled it until we can get some kind of spec or test explaining what should happen.

This bug report serves as a reminder that the link has been disabled, so we can enable it when we know how it is meant to work.

The link hasn't actually been disabled yet. It's still on a branch that awaits review. People are still asking about it on #launchpad.

Okay, looking at the text on the page in lauchpad, it seems clear that people are meant to add their own hackergotchi and emblems.

I've asked gneuman and matsubara to look into writing a page test with documentation for this, and fixing it.

It seems to me that a function involving adding an image to a site for the public to see should involve some kind of workflow, which includes a step for the image to be approved/rejected by a review team, to prevent pr0n spam and such.

Thoughts?

Well, the images are forced to be below a certain very small size. Won't be getting any high-res pr0n, at least.

I'm certainly not volunteering to screen images being uploaded by end-users -- and Brad, remember, people can upload porn to our wikis, too!

Heh.

We could always take the other approach (like I've just done with task editing permissions), and make it wiki-mode and see if anybody abuses it.

Hi guys. I definitely intended for people to upload their own hackergotchi. Sorry if that didn't end up being the case, I suspect I was using the foobar user (an admin) during testing and messed up permissions on the way.

The only use for "emblems" is in groups, at the moment. People get the emblems of all the groups they are members of, displayed on their details portlet. I think we should probably not show the "edit emblem" link for individuals, only for teams.
