did you check the md5sums too?

I did not check the md5 sums. I will check now.
[I downloaded from two different mirrors and diffed the two files. The cd got
further in on older hardware]

I just checked the md5 sum, it matches the md5sum downloaded from the server.

This is just a heads up, it looks like a problem with ubuntu and new hardware,
while it affects me I am just logging the issue so that it can be fixed in due
course, I realise developers have other bugs to be working on, but if it is
something that can be easily fixed please post the solution/say when there will
be a patch release.

Thank you again for your time.

It turned out this is a known issue with a workaround (switch dma off), the issue has now been fixed.

Current Debian unstable installs, the ethernet works, but the LCD screen is limited to VESA at 640xXXX, rather than 1024x768 which is what it displays on windows, put in a note in debian help. Driver intel(R) 82915G express chipset family. (tar.gz 2006 source driver which seemed for XFree86, and rpm 2004 driver available)

I could try to switch on my old CRT monitor.

This was sorted out by
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

and chosing the i810 driver

Highlighted options in firefox are unreadable and I have not set up printing yet, but I am doing my java work through debian complete with X cut and paste, rather than some emulation cygwin X and windowsxp workaround.

Life is if not good, certainly better and more optimistic!

It sounds like you were able to eventually get this bug worked around. To avoid this in the future, could you please check and see if Dapper Drake 6.06.1 installs correctly?

Thanks for the bug report.
