Bug Description

The mergeant version in Ubuntu is 0.52, which is quite old- slightly over a year. Besides many bugfixes, translations for 11 languages have been updated/added. It would be nice if this were updated.

A new mergeant version would require a new libgda2 & libgnomedb2-4 in main, which cannot happen at this point of the release, sorry. It's more likely to get updated in dapper

Indeed, that version is quite old, today I even filed a bug because I was unable to connect to my PostgreSQL DB, chances are that this might have been already corrected in current releases.
I feel we should upgrade it too.

The provided version is so old that it is not possible to connect to current PostgreSQL databases.

It's look like we will reach the same conclusion that has been done by Andrew for breezy: the new release requires a new libgda2 & libgnomedb2-4 in main which is not possible for Dapper now.

Is this going to happen for edgy then?

This requires new packaging of new libgda (soname change, incompatible) and libgnomedb (soname change and incompatible as well). It's non-trivial and requires work. I put some work into this already, but it's one of many tasks.

Another version was released, 0.63, which adds a much improved GUI and support for table creation, destruction and renaming, and for column addition and removal. I know it is a lot of work, but including it in edgy would be very very much appreciated!

libgda 3.0.1 is in Gutsy now. We could get the new libgnomedb from the Debian GNOME team SVN. After that we can update mergeant again.

If somebody wants to work on that, give me a shout and I'll review changes etc.

Daniel,

We need a merge of libgnomedb3-4 (3.0.0-1) from Debian unstable. I've created a request:

This bug is ancient. Has anyone tried a package for Feisty or Gutsy?

I've pointed Fernando to put his REVU link here, but he doesn't do it.

I think this should be an UVF exception and be synced from debian, because we shouldn't ship a buggy, over 3 years old version when an uptodate package is available from debian.

If someone would confirm that the current version builds and works unmodified on Gutsy, I would ask this (please include build log).

I don't know if it builds, but the binary package from debian works like a charm on ubuntu.

We need it built in an Ubuntu Gutsy environment and the build log for that. If you don't know how to do that, you might ask on #ubuntu-motu to see if you can get someone to do it for you.

I've just built it in Gutsy and have added the build log. Is that all you need?
