Bug Description

Hello !
I have a thinkpad r50e. It has the i855Gm graphic card, and I use the "intel" driver.
I run Hardy Heron.

When I want to suspend to ram, it works fast and well, but then, while resuming, everything is fine, except the the screen is messy ! (see the attachment)

It does that since 3 or 4 ubuntu releases (I've reported this bug a numerous time over the years !)

I've tried all the "workaround" proposed on this website.

About the package, some say it's vbetools who is broken, other tell that it's the driver,...

Thanks

Yannick

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please add your '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' file and your '/var/log/Xorg.0.log' file as attachments to your bug report? Thanks in advance.

Hello !
Here are the file requested !

In previousversion, it was reported as a vbetools bug, I don't know if it helps.

Filing against -intel for now, although it might be a kernel bug (drm).

Hello !

I installed fedora 9 (beta), and suspend works flawlessly on the same hardware !

I don't know if it helps, but i felt like i should mention it :)

Bye !

I can confirm this bug.
To solve the problem i use the options:

Option "XaaNoScreenToScreenCopy"
Option "XaaNoSolidFillRect"

in the xorg.conf

GLX is also effected by the bug.
Glxgears shows a blank screen and after closing it reports:

XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":0.0"

X11 works normal after rebooting Linux

Hey, thanks for the tips.

Could you tell me where to put this information? in what section of xorg?

Thanks

Ok, I've done that, I'll try it later :)

Could you please post your whole org.conf file here, to see if anything different could interract?

Do you have a thinkpad r50e ?

Thanks

It's only an ACER TravelMate 240 (with i855gme)

Here is the xorg.conf ( made by KDE, so it looks a little ugly )

Yannick, can you confirm that Michael's suggestion of using those options worked for you? I notice he's using the obsolete i810 driver so I'm guessing his solution wouldn't work for you but it's worth a try.

Yannick, another thing to try is to set this in your xorg.conf:

  Section "Device"
    ...
    Option "ForceEnablePipeA" "true"
  EndSection

If that makes it work, then please paste in the output of `lspci -vvnn | grep -A1 "VGA compat"`, and give the laptop model name and number

Hello!
Thanks for the interest.
I saw here a workaround:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/40621 and more precisly: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acpi-support/+bug/40621/comments/59

now, with Ubuntu 8.04, it works flawlessly ! I dodn't change anything that this IBM.config file.

The michael suggestions didn't work, though.

Thank you !

Not sure why this didn't autoclose, but it's fixed in current Intrepid as of version 0.111
