Bug Description

https://launchpad.ubuntu.com/rosetta/products/synaptic/synaptic/+translate?languages=sv

Select "untranslated", click "Change".

The first five messages shown have already been translated.

Expected behaviour: Only untranslated messages should have been shown.

At https://launchpad.ubuntu.com/rosetta/products/synaptic/synaptic/+translate?languages=sv
select "untranslated", and click "Change". The first five messages shown have already been translated.
Expected behaviour: Only untranslated messages should be shown.

As shown in the TranslationWorkflow spec, translations that need review (either because they were contributed by a non-editor, or because they were contributed by an editor who nevertheless marked them as needing review) should be reviewable only by editors, not by non-editors. That's why editors exist. It should be possible to make a new suggestion, but this should be done by entering it in an empty field under the existing suggestions, not by deleting the existing suggestion.

URL I want to look at once Rosetta's been updated: https://launchpad.ubuntu.com/products/pmount/unknown/+pots/hoary-pmount/sv/+translate

Yeah, I see the bug.

Thanks for the report.

The URL has changed because we renamed the template, it's now:

https://launchpad.ubuntu.com/rosetta/products/synaptic/hoary-synaptic/+translate?languages=sv

Cheers.

We did some changes to fix it, but seems like it's still there. I was able to reproduce it with the new system:

We did today a fix that should solve this issue.

It will land at launchpad.ubuntu.com on Monday, please add a comment if you see the problem again.

Cheers.

Hard for me to tell whether or not it's fixed; I don't understand how I can choose to view only untranslated entries any more:

If you don't see the selector, it's because you don't have rights to translate into that language. The form is the same as before.

Anyway, the server is still running the old version of Rosetta, it will be updated later today or tomorrow morning.

Has the server been updated yet? This is still broken for me.

Yes, it's updated already, can you give us the URL where you see it?

Thank you.

It's the URL in "related web links" at the right part of this page:

I don't see any translated entry...

It shows you three entries with translations but with the 'Needs review' flag set

As I said before, the issue here is that the count is confusing when we have strings which have translations in review. Could we please get some UI traction to ensure the confusion is cleared permanently?

That's another bug (btw, I cannot find it now, so please, feel free to add a link here to that other bug). Kiko, please, don't reuse bugs for different things.

The bug in which we discussed this problem earlier is https://launchpad.ubuntu.com/malone/bugs/351

However, Frederik hasn't answered there whether the bug is actually a UI bug or not. Johan, what is your take on it?

Johan Walles (walles) wrote :

It's an UI bug. I was obviously confused by this, as was the reporter of bug 351.

IMO needs-review translations should be in their own category. They obviously aren't ready for use, and thus cannot be counted as translated. OTOH, a translation obviously exists (otherwise there wouldn't be anything to review), so counting them as untranslated is wrong as well.

By the same reasoning, showing needs-review entries when asking for untranslated entries seems wrong to me. If that's what you get, the category should be named something like "untranslated and needs-review items".

I agree with you. Could I ask you to add yourself to the subscriber list on bug 351 and add your comments there? Carlos would rather we not expand on this bug (which had code landed for it, though the problem it fixed is not the one we are currently discussing).
