Bug Description

Folding@Home is a distributed computing (DC) project designed to perform computationally intensive simulations of protein folding and other molecular dynamics (MD).

It allows people to use spare CPU cycles to contribute processing power for protein folding, so that scientists can understand cancer and other deceases.

Please add it to the software repositories.

Unfortunately we can't, it is not legally able to be redistributed by Ubuntu.

Take a look at: http://folding.stanford.edu/English/License

"You may not alter the software or associated data files.

You may only use unmodified versions of Folding@home obtained through authorized distributors to connect to the Folding@Home servers. Use of other software to connect to the Folding@home servers is strictly prohibited.

Distribution of this software is prohibited. It may only be obtained by downloading from Stanford's web site (http://folding.stanford.edu and pages linked therein)."

Would be nice though.

Oh, I am sorry.

My bad.
I really should have checked the license before asking to put it in the repositories. How dumb of me.

As discussed before, what about how flashplugin-nonfree works? It downloads the Flash player each and every time from Adobe.com. Can the same not be done for F@H?

my origami package (management tool for single or multiple F@H clients) handles the installation while staying within the Stanford license. I wrote it to make installing, managing and removing F@H as simple as possible.

Origami is currently only available in my PPA but it will be available in Ubuntu 8.10 "Intrepid"

So, origami is a front-end for Folding@home, and you mark this report as "Fix Released", eh?
Folding@home is still not packaged?

Folding@Home will never be directly packaged as it must be distributed from stanford directly. Origami, as one of its options, will retrieve and install it for you. This is likely the best we're going to get for packaging and using folding@home on ubuntu.

Alright, okay then I understand.

P.S, I think the guys from Stanford are assholes!
