Bug Description

Binary package hint: lm-sensors

Description: Ubuntu hardy (development branch)
Release: 8.04

lm-sensors:
  Installed: 1:3.0.0-4ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1:3.0.0-4ubuntu1

My system uses an Intel Core2Duo Mobile T9300 CPU (Penryn). When I run 'sensors-detect', I get the following output that show that the thermal sensors of the CPU are not detected:

...
Some CPUs or memory controllers may also contain embedded sensors.
Do you want to scan for them? (YES/no):
AMD K8 thermal sensors... No
AMD K10 thermal sensors... No
Intel Core family thermal sensor... No
Intel AMB FB-DIMM thermal sensor... No
....

When I use an Intel Core2Duo Mobile T7500 (Merom) instead, the output is as follows:

...
Some CPUs or memory controllers may also contain embedded sensors.
Do you want to scan for them? (YES/no):
AMD K8 thermal sensors... No
AMD K10 thermal sensors... No
Intel Core family thermal sensor... Yes
Intel AMB FB-DIMM thermal sensor... No
....

It seems that Hardy does not yet include support for the Penryn CPU.

Confirmed - this issue applies to the desktop versions of the Intel 45nm CPUs too. An update to both lm-sensors and hwmon's coretemp module will be needed.

Is this bug still applicable in 9.04 using linux-image-2.6.28-2-ub-generic?
