Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I have my workspace switcher in the top right corner. I also have the expo compiz plugin set to initiate on mouse move to the top right corner. The workspace switcher has a tooltip description for keys for compiz, and sometimes, like 1 in 5, the tooltip pops up when i go to initiate expo. So I have expo activated, and I see the tooltip on both the workspaces, if I switch back to a workspace and put my mouse over the tooltip, gnome-panel crashes and restarts.

Not the easiest bug to replicate, but it is annoying to have gnome-panel crash on me (because of this bug, I usually crash the panel once or twice every hour).

Fresh install of hardy alpha 6, but this bug was also occurring with a fully update install from alpha 5.

Thanks for your report, is this still an issue with latest package? May you tell us a few steps in order to reproduce the crash? thanks.

Yes, just now, using a fully updated system, I can still get this crash. Also, I just found an easier way than I previously described to reproduce this crash.

Steps:
1. Enable Compiz
2. Add Workspace Switcher to gnome-panel
3. Move mouse over workspace switcher and wait until tooltip appears
4. Quickly move your mouse onto the tooltip, it doesn't happen most of the time, but sometimes, gnome-panel will vanish (crash), and a crash report window pops up.

I can't reproduce this crash with any of the other applet's tooltips on the panel.

Attached is a picture of the tooltip (it normal isn't transparent, but for some reason it fades when I take a screenshot)

I think i can also reproduce this crash.

It's have to do with the new tooltip.
My way to reproduce it is :

1. enable compiz
2. move the mouse over the workspace switcher
3. as soon as the tooltip appears, click on a workspace (different than your current one, of course)
4. repeat with different delay until it crash

The tooltip is created by libwnck22.
If i rebuild this package without the patch that add this tooltip (02_expose_wm_keybindings.patch)
it don't crash anymore.

the valgrind log shows that's an issue in libcompizconfig and due to the tooltip changes, mirco could you look at the issue?

I still have to trigger the crash here. Sofar not been able to reproduce this. But I think I've got enough hints to tackle it.
