Bug Description
Binary package hint: nvidia-settings
The current nvidia-settings package can't consistently write out good xorg.conf's when saving changes. There have been changes to the upstream package that modify the parser which should clean up these errors.
Upstream doesn't include a changelog in the package, but I discovered the changes to the parser by looking through a diff of the two package (169.07 currently in the archive and 169.12 released by them). Additionally there is changelog on the nvidia-glx-new driver (which normally includes this) at http://
Quoting that:
"Improved nvidia-xconfig behavior when updating X configuration files without a "Module" section."
The follow crash related bugs were opened related to these errors and should be closed from the new package:
bug 194528 [Hardy] nvidia-settings crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()
bug 195241 nvidia-settings crashed with SIGSEGV
bug 195302 nvidia-settings crashed when saving changes
bug 197568 nvidia-settings crashed with SIGSEGV
bug 198215 nvidia-settings crashed during "save to X configuration file"
This bug was fixed in the package nvidia-settings - 1.0+20080304- 0ubuntu1
