Bug Description

When applying the style option "zoom" the background gets zoomed from the left top or bottom edge (don't know which one, does not matter anyways).
Generally, a picture should be zoomed from its center. (if required there, should be another option, for zooming against a user defined point)

TESTCASE:
- download http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14250325/background.jpg
- start gnome-appearance-properties and add the image to the wallpapers
- select it and use to the zoom option
- notice that the thumbnail and the desktop wallpaper are showing blue colors, the image is align on the left
- do the same after the update, the thumbnail and wallpaper have light blue and white, the image is correctly centered

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in gnome-control-center.

I got around that the option *center* uses aswell the left top edge as center and not the actual center which it should.

Confirmed.

Centered should show the image at full size, centered, which implies that part of the image might end up outside the desktop area. This was how it worked until recently. Now, the image is indeed full-sized, but left-aligned.

Zoom also ends up left-aligned, even though it should simply zoom-in on the image enough to fill the screen, as it did until recently.

upstream has some questions on the issue

"Not reproducible here (all 2.22.0).

Does it happen in the background, the background thumbnail, or both?

Is nautilus managing the background, or g-s-d?

Exact versions of nautilus, g-s-d, and gnome-desktop involved?"

could you reply to those?

It happens when right-clicking on the desktop and selecting *change desktop bg*. I only expirienced the bug there, but as allready pointed out, no way to check wether it is present anywhere else.

It happens with both:

The background itself is not centered, while the thumbnail is both
off-center and clipped.

I'm guessing that Nautilus is managing, since I usually right-click on
the desktop to change the background. However, I also tried changing
it via the control panel with the same result.

Versions are kept up to date with Hardy.

Same problem, the image is not centered when i choose center. I only tested with image that the size is larger than my screen.

I have this problem too.

Images larger than the screen are not centered with "centered" or "zoom". The top edges of images never go past the top edge of the screen, and the left edges of images never go past the left edge of the screen.

Confirmed here also, since Hardy. Looks like upstream released a patch.

Have you restarted your gnome session after the update ? I got strange results on the background position before doing that.

OK, now how can I turn this off? I really liked the zoom when it took the picture and vertically alligned it to top but not to the center. It is more suitable if you wnat to have a portrait-like picture as a wallpaper.

Is there any way to change allignment of zoomed wallpapers?
