Bug Description

In XFCEs UI Prefs window the different default themes do not change the look of the gadgets much. See the attached screenshot. Using Mythbuntu 7.10 x86.
I have never been able to change the gadgets look from a fresh install. I tried to add an other theme and get a different look but most colours are the same as before (Xenon).

I discovered the reason for this problem. I had a file: ~/.gtkrc-2.0 which I am sure came from the installation. It includes "/usr/share/themes/Mythbuntu/gtk-2.0/gtkrc" and for some reason it overrides any of my changes. By removing it I can change GUI-themes like one would expect.

This was actually caused by a setting in the gdm.conf that was disabling the ability for the user to change the GTK Theme it has been changed and the fix commited.

That fix is not a proper fix. zabadapp, when you remove the .gtkrc-2.0, the theme i changable correct? Where do the new theme changes get stored? Can you look into it?

I had no idea where XFCE stored its settings, but since you asked I looked around and found:
~/.config/xfce4/mcs_settings/gtk.xml

The current theme in use is stored there:

        <option name="Net/ThemeName" type="string" value="Clearlooks"/>

I changed to Mythbuntu with the Prefs GUI and looked again:

        <option name="Net/ThemeName" type="string" value="Mythbuntu"/>

That has to be it.

Thanks,

We'll switch things around to use that instead then.

In tracking down where this came from, it's a remenant of when we did openbox. Thank goodness those days are over. You won't see it fixed until the release after alpha3 (those disks were mastered with the problem in them). If anyone else comes across this bug, just nuke ~/.gtkrc-2.0 or /root/.gtkrc-2.0 and you will be able to modify themes as expected.
