BasKet Launcher Icon Missing

Bug Description

We recently found / installed BasKet Note Pads 1.0.1 on Ubuntu 7.04.

Unfortunately the program launcher it created in the Applications \ Accessories menu has no icon.

Looking at the package, the package does not seem to install any files to the path other programs install their launcher icons to.

I guess next I will go fishing through the source tar.gz from their web site to see if an icon was even supplied in the source code.

I manually set the icon to file:
/usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/scalable/apps/basket.svg
to resolve this problem.

I am unable to confirm this problem with both KDE 3 and KDE 4 concerning the icon. The icon shows up fine for me at this time. Can anyone confirm this in 7.10 (Gutsy)? It is totally fine in Hardy. Thanks.

Due to bugs "133786 Bus error when running Firefox or Epiphany" and "179238 xfs corruption - Clean install of 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon and applying latest updates" I refuse to give Ubuntu 7.10 another chance.

Due to those errors I was researching how to get testing with Hardy, and last evening searched and found http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/ which looks like the place to get daily builds of the Hardy ISO so was seriously considering setting up a test install of Hardy to verify those bugs are indeed squashed. I will thus verify that this BasKet bug is squashed in Hardy.

When you said you tested with both KDE 3 and 4, I find that a bit puzzling as I tried to open the bug against Ubuntu, not Kubuntu. Did I make a mistake somehow?

This problem has been verified on two separate installs of Ubuntu 7.04.

Thanks for the quick response. Actually the mistake was on my part and not catching 'Ubuntu' at first. On IRC I asked if some people could test it to verify it. I haven't tested it yet, nor heard back from anyone who may have tested it. I would like to get Ubuntu setup in Virtualbox but I am waiting for the new modules to get built for the latest kernel first. Sorry about the confusion there.

I am able to confirm this in Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy). There is an icon there, but it seems like a default filler icon, as it is not the actual basket icon.

I just finished installing Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy) as well and confirm the problem is the same as seen/reported against 7.04.

I think the problem may lie within the fact that Basket doesn't have a Hicolor icon. I am going to test this more in a bit and see if that does in fact fix it.

The BasKet package seems to come with so many icons already, I guess you are the better judge.

As I reported earlier, that particular file is at least a better icon for the launcher than what it is currently. I went with the svg icon rather than a png as svg seems to be re-sizable and I know Gnome supports resizing desktop icons. (I suppose svg is a vector image rather than raster.)

Basket is KDE 3, Kontact is KDE 4, they are just incompatible. That is a different problem tough, and will be resolved once the Basket developers release a KDE 4 version.

I can confirm that this is still broken on 8.10 64 bit Ubuntu. I use the gnome dekstop environment. The file
/usr/share/applications/kde/basket.desktop contains the line "Icon=basket". I believe the problem is taht there is no
file basket.xxx in /usr/share/pixmaps/ - at least on my system.

Attached is a debdiff, that fixes this issue. It installs a icon and sets it in the menu entry.

I checked on jaunty and karmic, and the menu icon is displayed correctly.

Please see attached screenshot.

Kind regards

Are you sure, you attached the correct screenshot? It shows the generic icon for BasKet. So according to your screenshot, this isn't fixed.

I am running a fully up-to-date Jaunty 64bit (as of 7th July 2009) and the Basket icon is not there - it is the generic app icon (basically a grey square). Thus I also do not believe this to be totally fixed.
