Bug Description

When I click the "Show Applications" button in the lower left, it brings up a matrix of application icons, which takes a page and a half. There should be two dots on the right to match the two pages, but instead there are * dots. Moving up and down, the first and second dots highlight to show which page I am on. But only the top dot, and the bottom two, can be clicked on to change the page.

Thank you for your bug report, that's a gnome-shell issue, reassigning there. Could you do 'apport-collect 1870847' and add your journalctl to the bug?

Thanks for looking at this. I do not see any messages in journalctl that happen when I open and close the menu.

I disabled the Ubuntu Dock extension using the Gnome Extensions app and tried to reproduce the bug, and the bug didn't happen anymore.
When I installed the Dash to Dock extension by the Gnome Extensions site, and tried to reproduce the error, nothing wrong happened.

I think that the bug is caused by the dock, and the version 68 of Dash to Dock fixed this bug. The Ubuntu dock is still in version 67.

Brian Murray (brian-murray) wrote : Please test proposed package

Hello Bob, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock/68ubuntu1~20.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

When I click the "Show Applications" button in the lower left, it brings up a matrix of application icons, which takes a page and a half. There are now correctly two dots on the right to match the two pages, and clicking on the dots works properly.

I will open a new bug report - if the dock is on the right, the dots are hidden behind the dock. I do not remember if that happened before.

That's odd... for me, with Ubuntu Dock v68 in GNOME 3.36.1, the bug no longer happen. But when I updated to GNOME 3.36.2, the bug appeared again.

Does it happen to someone else? Does that even make sense?

From the verification in comment #17 it feels as if the bug is fixed in the version that's currently in the release pocket (67ubuntu20.04.5 has been reported, instead of the 68ubuntu1~20.04.1 which is in -proposed). This would basically mean that this fix is not needed? Could anyone clear this out? Since if this SRU is not needed, then I would not want to release the update for nothing.

It's not clear what version of the dock are you using with gnome 3.36.2

However, Lukasz, as per the fact the reporter marked this as fixed initially with the SRU'ed version, I don't see a reason to stop the update, given that it also includes other fixes.

Sebastien Bacher (seb128) wrote :

@Łukasz, the fix there is correct, if there is another problem with the newer gnome-shell SRU it's not something created by the ubuntucok package update. As Marco stated the SRU also includes other fixes. Since there are no regression and only improvement I'm setting it back as verified

The bug is in "dash to dock" extension.
steps to reproduce:
1. open "dash to dock" extension
2. open "position and size"
3. select "panel mode: extend to the screen edge"
4. open application launcher and open app-folder and click outside of app-folder

Since "ubuntu-dock" uses "dasht to dock" hence the bug.
