Bug Description

As we discussed, xscreensaver should simply blank if the LTSP_CLIENT environment
variable is set. Filing this bug as a reminder.

Testing with Edubuntu i386 preview.
xsreensaver is 4.21-4ubuntu10
LTSPCLIENT=ltsp (on thin client)

Using (default) setting of "Random Screen Saver", the first one is blank
(correct), then each time it cycles, the screensaver is displayed (bad). This is
repeatable.

The preview facility in "Screensaver Preferences" is always blank (probably
correct, but unexpected!).

gnome-screensaver has the ability to switch to blank-only mode now (enabled by
default in edubuntu, to be enabled in ltsp by default as well)

How do you disable it only for one session?

only in xscreensaver, i'll have to figure out how to set the gconf key for gnome-screensaver on ltsp logins

IMHO, changing the settings of gnome-screensaver at the start of the session is not the right way to do so: when you will leave the session you may forget to set back the gconf setting and loose your nice screensaver the next time you log on a non-ltsp session. It may be a corner case (I know it is not a problem for me) but it does not look right to me...

Why not making gnome-screensave just ignore its settings when running a LTSP session ?

on a related note, the same could be applied to other graphic-intensive things like the fade-out effect of the logout dialog :)

gnome-screensaver (2.19.6-0ubuntu2) gutsy; urgency=low

  * add 04_force_blank_only_on_ltsp.patch (LP: #18595) to drop all the ugly
workarounds we have in LTSP and foce blank-only if LTSP_CLIENT is set.
  * 03_fix_ltsp-fading.patch gss apparewntly crashes on fade actions on
LDM_DIRECTX exported displays. since fading is a bad idea anyway on LTSP
Clients its disabled completely now if LTSP_CLIENT is set.
