Bug Description

The 20191014 amd64 subiquity image fails to install when using a preseed. The previous image (20191012) was working. The culprit seems to be:

OSError: [Errno 5] Input/output error: '/etc/machine-id'

The installation succeeds on the other arches.

This bug was fixed in the package casper - 1.426

  * Just like in Disco, overlayfs squashfs is tripped up with an empty
    file, this time it's machine-id. Maybe we should finally dig into
    what's wrong in the kernel/systemd when trying to edit overlayfs
    multi-lowerdir squashfs readonly files. LP: #1848190
