Bug Description

* Impact
the xbox 360 controllers don't work on cosmic

* Test case
enable cosmic-proposed and ensure that 'apt install fwupd-signed' works
try to use an xbox controller on 18.10

* Impact
the upload is removing a device ID from the list, the impact could be that a device with that same ID which was handled stop getting firmware updates

----------------

After upgrading from Ubuntu 18.04 to 18.10, my Xbox 360 controller doesn't work any more. After reloading xpad per modprobe it works again:

modprobe -r xpad
modprobe xpad

There are other users, having the same issue:
https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/9pnvl4/ubuntu_1810_xbox_360_controller/

My system is:
Description: Ubuntu 18.10

Thank you for your bug report, that doesn't seem an issue with the nautilus filemanager though? Reassigning to linux

I am still not able to see my XBOX controller in fs-uae.
I use fwupd 1.1.2-1 on Ubuntu 18.10.

The controller is a Speedlink Strike NX which was displayed as XBox controller in fs-uae before I upgraded from 18.04 to 18.10.

Is there a information I could provide to get it working ?

For now you can do one of three things:

1) mask the fwupd systemd service if you don't use it for anything. This will stop it from running.
2) Modify the plugin blacklist in /etc/fwupd/daemon.conf to blacklist the ebitdo plugin
3) Backport that fix manually https://github.com/hughsie/fwupd/commit/76bdc8c3

I blacklisted the plugin (method 2), the syslog messages are different but the result is the same. The Speedlink is not visible.

I also tried to find the file plugins/ebitdo/ebitdo.quirk but I was not able to find the file.

Maybe I missinterpredit the error completely wrong and this has nothing to do with the speedlink strike NX but for me it looks like that this device announce itself as a xbox

Closing the bug for the current serie since the new version with that commit is there, a SRU with the patch has also been uploaded to the SRU queue for 18.10 (it might take some days before it gets reviewed/accepted)

Hi,

I installed fwupd-signed from cosmic-proposed.

Played a game that requires controller and it works.

When unplugging xbox 360 controller, dmesg gives this message:
