Bug Description

It says I don't have an official apt source listed, which I do. The error message was pretty vague, so I'm not sure what information to add. Here's my sources list:

$ cat /etc/apt/sources.list | grep ^d

deb mirror://mirrors.ubuntu.com/mirrors.txt bionic-updates main restricted
deb mirror://mirrors.ubuntu.com/mirrors.txt bionic universe
deb mirror://mirrors.ubuntu.com/mirrors.txt bionic-updates universe
deb mirror://mirrors.ubuntu.com/mirrors.txt bionic multiverse
deb mirror://mirrors.ubuntu.com/mirrors.txt bionic-updates multiverse
deb mirror://mirrors.ubuntu.com/mirrors.txt bionic-backports main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu bionic partner
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-security main restricted
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-security universe
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-security multiverse

I don't think the release upgrader understands the "deb mirror" lines in your sources.list file. Please replace those with an official Ubuntu mirror and try the upgrade again.

I did right after posting the bug and it worked just fine. Possibly something to fix for an upcoming release?

I'm not questioning the fact that this is a bug but I'm curious what documentation lead you to add "deb mirror" entries to your sources.list file. Could you point me at it? Thanks in advance.

I don't remember for sure which article it was, but I was travelling at the time and looking to auto-select the fastest mirrors. Searching now finds a familiar-looking article and forum answer:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/39922/how-do-you-select-the-fastest-mirror-from-the-command-line

This person seems to have issues with using the 'mirros' solution as well:

Most appear in places like Ask Ubuntu (and other Stack Exchange sites). I had not seen "official" information but I searched and found a blueprint:
