release-upgrader unable to deal with sources.list entries of "deb mirror://"

I don't think the release upgrader understands the "deb mirror" lines in your sources.list file. Please replace those with an official Ubuntu mirror and try the upgrade again.

I did right after posting the bug and it worked just fine. Possibly something to fix for an upcoming release?

I'm not questioning the fact that this is a bug but I'm curious what documentation lead you to add "deb mirror" entries to your sources.list file. Could you point me at it? Thanks in advance.

I don't remember for sure which article it was, but I was travelling at the time and looking to auto-select the fastest mirrors. Searching now finds a familiar-looking article and forum answer:
