Bug Description

Hi,

I am trying to build custom ISO for ubuntu14 using cubic. I have this running on ubuntu 14.04. Please let me know if this is supported. I face no issues on ubuntu 16.04. When I try to launch cubic in ubuntu 14.04 the window does not open after I authenticate the password.

Please advise.

FYI
I created iso for ubuntu-14 on ubuntu-16 but the installer is crashing due to the changes I am making. I noticed if I am not installing libpam-pwquality and creating seperate partition for /dev/shm the installer is not crashing. Without the above 2 changes I am able to create the iso and install it successfully.

I am not saying that these are the only two changes that are causing the installer to crash but just what I experienced. There might be others as well.

@syed,

Your issue may be unrelated.
In this bug, Cubic doesn't even launch in 14.04.

So cubic is not for ubuntu 14.04 is that what you mean? The article actually said for ubuntu 14.04 and I followed those steps. So, if cubic does not work in ubuntu 14.04 is there a way I can create base iso?

Also, can cubic build iso for any ubuntu version as long as it is running. I have it installed on ubuntu 16.04 and was thinking to build iso for ubuntu 14.04.

Thanks,
Zain

@Syed,

This particular bug report is for an issue in 14.04 where Cubic simply does not launch.
Does Cubic launch for you?

If you have general questions, you can ask them in the "Answers" section (https://answers.launchpad.net/cubic).

Nevertheless, to answer your questions...

You can use Cubic in any of the currently supported Ubuntu releases (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases).
Cubic will support Ubuntu 14.04 until April 2019 and Ubuntu 16.04 until April 2021.
Therefore, you should be able to Customize Ubuntu 14.04 using Cubic running in Ubuntu 16.04.

Theoretically, you could run Cubic in other unsupported releases as well, but you will run into issues because packages will not be available from the repositories.

If you encounter a bug in Cubic, you can open a new bug report.

The issue you described above doesn't seem to be a Cubic bug, because it seems to be due to specific packages you are installing, and it seems to be related to the ubiquity package maintained by Canonical.

However, if you post your issue in the "Answers" section, someone may be able to offer some guidance. Remember to include enough detail so we can recreate your issue.

If the issue you are describing turns out to be a bug, we can easily convert your question into a bug report and address it in the Cubic software.

@Syed,

Just to be clear, I ~think~ the issue you describe in Comment #5 is different than the issue you had opened this bug report for.

If you create a new question, we can examine your issue in Comment #5 as well.

Yes. I asked two different things I one ticket. But yes, my main issue is cubic not launching in ubuntu 14.04.
So what is the exact issue with cubic running on ubuntu 14.04? I not too sure what was the error I encountered. But since we both experienced this could you share the reason and what steps I can take to resolve this or get it resolved?

Thanks,
Zain

I was able to recreate the issue with cubic not running on Ubuntu 14.04.

The exact error is in Comment #3.

Cubic uses two different UIs -- one for GTK 3.10 (without Header Bars, on Ubuntu 14.04) and one for GTK 3.20+ (with Headerbars on Ubuntu 16.04+). GtkBuilder is complaining about parsing the non-Header-Bar UI.

The good news is, I should be able to publish a fix this evening, if testing is successful.
