Synaptic dies quitely on startup

Bug Description

If synaptic is already open, in another user's session, synaptic dies silently
on startup, even in the console. There should be feedback, something like
"Another user is currently using Synaptic". Even better if the message would
tell who is using it.

Thanks for your bugreport.

Synaptic tries to raise the window of the running synaptic. This works quite
well for me (even if synaptic is running on a different workspace). What
window-manager do you use? Is this hoary or a very up-to-date breezy?

Thanks,
 Micahel

I have not changed my window manager, and I'm using Hoary. Raising the window
works if the same user tries to open a second instance. The problem is that
there is no error message if another user is already running synaptic.

Thanks for your clarification.

That's a good point. I don't think that it's possible to detect that, do you
think a message on the console or a dialog say "another synaptic is running" is
sufficient? I think it's a uncommon situation that two different users want to
run synaptic the same time.

Synaptic prints a message now when it finds another synaptic running.
