Bug Description
grub2 is currently at version 2.02~beta3-4ubuntu6 in artful, and 2.02~beta2-
While it's important to be able to know from within the bootloader the exact version of grub that is running for bug reporting and troubleshooting purposes, this is a very ugly string to display to the user in the default path.
We should patch upstream grub to display a user friendly string in the banner, and hide the full package version in some variable that's available from the GRUB console for debugging purposes.

This becomes less of an issue when the newly-released grub 2.02 is included, probably in the 18.04 cycle; but we should still clean this up in a future-proof way.
