Bug Description

[Availability]
The package is currently in universe with no deltas with Debian. The s390x version in Debian is a +b1 the change log notes that it was a binary-only upload with no source changes to rebuild against glibc (>= 2.19-9).

[Rationale]
The Ubuntu Server team wishes to seed the package in ubuntu-server image.

nicstat prints network traffic statistics and is useful in understanding when network traffic is occurring, what interfaces are doing what, and how much traffic is occurring. It is a great general utility for determining network related issues as well.

[Security]
There are no previous or active CVEs against the package.

The package consists of a single binary that exists in /usr/bin

[Quality assurance]
There is no configuration required and no debconf questions asked by the package. The package currently is built and ran across all release architectures.

There are a 1 bugs in the Ubuntu bug tracker [4] and 0 in the Debian bug tacker [5]. The lone issue is not related to data corruption, system crashing, or some other catastrophic issue.

[Dependencies]
Run time dependency libc6 is satisfied in main.

Build dependencies debhelper is satisfied in main.

[Standards compliance]
The package does not report any lintian issues.

[Maintenance]
We can continue to keep this package synced directly with Debian. It is not a volatile package with many changes coming.

[Background information]
The general purpose and context of the package is explained in the package's debian/control file. This package has not had a different name in the past.

nicstat still has the one open bug that would be trivially fixable: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nicstat/+bug/1487190 (it contains a patch). It is also missing a team bug subscriber the package, for the team willing to support it in main.

Please fix the above issues.

The server team is now a team subscriber.

I have submitted the defect to Debian to get it pulled in with the patch. Carrying a delta for a small patch seemed silly unless told otherwise.
