Bug Description

[Impact]

Currently we are not building xmir packages for arm64 as there was no consumer for such binaries. With the current xenial plans and a potential switch to arm64, we now need to provide arm64 binaries for testing our Ubuntu Touch arm64 images (which currently cannot be built without xmir on arm64). This is critical and crucial for our Ubuntu Touch switch to xenial.

[Test Case]

Making sure that xmir builds on arm64. Currently no other testing means are easily available, we need to have xmir building at all to build our first arm64 rootfs and then dive into testing.

[Regression Potential]

No risk potential on existing platforms as it only involves packaging changes enabling the new architecture for xmir. No source changes required.

The change for this already landed in the xenial stable-phone-overlay and the packages seem to look ok.

Pushing simultaneously to both yakkety and xenial as the only way to basically test this is to get the packages building (which I already tested in a devirt PPA).

Thanks Timo! Sorry for interrupting your workflow. I coordinated it with Robert and didn't know you already had any work ongoing. As long as these changes are kept with the new version it's all ok with me.

Adam Conrad (adconrad) wrote : Please test proposed package

Hello Łukasz, or anyone else affected,

Accepted xorg-server into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/2:1.18.3-1ubuntu2.3 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance!

The new xorg-server in -proposed successfully builds arm64 xmir binaries, as expected. That's all we need for now.

The verification of the Stable Release Update for xorg-server has completed successfully and the package has now been released to -updates. Subsequently, the Ubuntu Stable Release Updates Team is being unsubscribed and will not receive messages about this bug report. In the event that you encounter a regression using the package from -updates please report a new bug using ubuntu-bug and tag the bug report regression-update so we can easily find any regressions.
