This issue occurs when using the NVIDIA graphics adapter, when switching to Intel graphics, webbrowser-app launches as expected.

I've got this problem and I have GeForce 9600 GT drivers 340 series.

Also on open source drivers the situation is even worse because while the browser works using it always ends with a complete system freeze.

I get the above errors, and when I try to launch with sudo I get the following:

Good old Nvidia doing what it does best. I am using the Nvidia proprietary driver instead of xorg because the latter kept giving me black screens with cursor on system wakeup (I say this in case the video driver is a cause of the webbrowser fail).

Update : In Ubuntu 16.10 the webbrowser-app launches and works as expected.
There is no problem anymore when the proprietary NVIDIA drivers are in use.

summary: - Ubuntu 16.04 LTS - webbrowser-app does not launch
+ Ubuntu 16.04 LTS - webbrowser-app does not launch in Unity7 when using

I tried launching Amazon's unity-webapp, and it normally opens, even though it's based on a webbrowser-app.
