It appears an FFe is needed at this stage in Xenial cycle, thus changing the bug status.

Hum... you're adding appindicator as a build dependency and also add qt5. Isn't this something which should happen in ibus-qt?

ibus-qt4 is plugin for immodule. It is completely no relation.

It seems a bit wasteful to pull in qt5base-dev and all its deps just to check a version number. Wouldn't it be better to add a versioned dep on the runtime component, then either get upstream to fix their check or override it in a patch?

Thats probably just being lazy, there are other ways to check these things apart from pkgconfig.

Assuming you tested this properly. It's a "leaf" feature and simple enough to disable again if it causes trouble, approved.

If somebody wants to see that SRUed could you add the SRU details required to the bug (impact/testcase/regression potential, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates) and then resubscribe sponsors?
