Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

With up-to-date gutsy (compiz 1:0.6.0+git20071004-0ubuntu2) moving windows and switching viewports by keyboard results in the wrong window having the focus.

1. Open window A on viewport 1 and window B on viewport 2.
2. Move to viewport 1.
3. Press Ctrl-Alt-Shift-Right to move window A to viewport 2.
4. -> Window A has the focus on viewport 2.
5. Move back to viewport 1 and leave window A on viewport 2 by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Left.
6. Move to viewport 2 by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Right.
7. -> Window A is above window B, but window B has the focus.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Hardy Heron. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

Unloading the animation plugin as suggested in bug #218726 also seems to fix this issue...

Reverting compiz-fusion-plugins-main to 0.7.2 using a custom version built by mvo fixes the issue. Reverting to official 0.7.4 brings it back (x restart required in between).

Thank you for reporting this bug. Is this still occurring for you? Does it occur on the latest version of Ubuntu (8.10 or 9.04 beta)?

I report that this is still happening in the default compiz settings that I fully reinstalled with upgrades to 9.04. Attached are my compiz settings that allowed me to reproduce the bug.

And, as suggested above, the bug did not show up after I turned off Animation plugin in the Compiz settings.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect <bug #> and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

Unfortunately, 11.10 is going out of support very soon and this bug is likely to not be fixed for 11.10. For 12.04 this should be complwetely fixed.

Please do let us know if this happens on a 12.04+ system.
