Bug Description

This is strange...

When I maximize certain applications the screen size changes. This is on a dell
crt monitor (maybe hardware issue?). I tested a few applications, firefox and
synaptic didn't seem to change the screen.

But nautilus, xpdf, and gedit are just a few that I did notice this on.

Steps to reproduce:
1> Open gedit or nautilus.
2> Maximize the application

Result:
Screen viewable area enlarges a little. Unmaximizing returns screen to normal
position (or does it?).

Expected:
Screen viewable area shouldn't ever change.

Notes:
* Dell CRT Monitor
* Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT (with nvidia-glx-config enable)
* Resolution 1280 x 1024

I think this is normal for CRT monitors; the size of the visible image changes
depending on color composition, etc. due to the physical properties of the device.

I don't ever remember seeing this on a Windows computer with a CRT (but maybe
I'm wrong). Maybe I'll try to find some Windows computers to test this out on.
Actually we're setting up a lab with some Windows and some Ubuntu so maybe I can
do some tests there.

Matt is right, and it doesn't happen on my monitor, either; it's entirely
dependent upon the hardware. Monitors with auto-adjust functionality are the
worst offenders here, particularly when going from things with dark backgrounds
to light.
