Latest wily image is not booting

Bug Description

STEPS:
1. grab the latest image
2. run it in kvm
kvm -m 2048 -hda ubuntu-hda.qcow2 -cdrom wily-desktop-amd64.iso -boot d -vga vmware -soundhw ac97

EXPECTED:
I expect to see a menu screen and then the try ubuntu install ubuntu option screen

ACTUAL:
It does nothing (See screenshots)

eca4c5525f64b427d65d2b1f417aa51d *wily-desktop-amd64.iso from http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20150812/wily-desktop-amd64.iso works as expected so it is only the latest that is broken.

Looks like this is a known issue upstream with GCC 5; our solution of explicitly building with GCC 4.x has also been use in Fedora.

Unfortunately the patch provided at the start of the "boot... round 2" thread is probably a little naive, I need to read the whole thread and see if something has already been committed in git.

This bug was fixed in the package syslinux - 3:6.03+dfsg-8ubuntu2

    space stripping in sysappend functions. (LP: #1484571)
  * debian/control: revert the previous change to build with GCC 4.9, and get
    back to GCC 5.
