Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

I CAN SEE THE MOUSE!

Once machine is idle for a period the screen goes blank. (In power management and screensaver I told it not too.)
If I move the mouse to wake I can see mouse, clearly, moving around screen but almost the whole screen is black. (There is a small white square in upper-right corner I think.)

I have waited over an hour for something to happen but nothing changes. I can do a CTRL-ALT-Backspace and can login again but this does generate an error.

Noticed that when I do use the CTRL-ALT-BS I see the desktop background, briefly, before X restarts, but it looks bare and perhaps without decorations.

If I move mouse then hit CTRL+ALT, then type my password, although I see no indication that it wants a password, then hit enter... wait for it...
seconds later I get my screen back.

What the crap is that about!?

Try disabling sync to vblank. Install compizconfig-settings-manager, go to System->Preferences->Advanced Desktop Effects, go to General Options, Display Settings tab, and uncheck the option there.

Does that help?

I do not want to do that just yet as 2 times now I have seen a Screensaver
and have been able to instantly wake from it. I believe a recent update
made a change which seems to fix this.

If not, I will try as you say.

Thanx!

PS. If you want for me to do it as a test for you then I can do that.

The recent change was to disable sync to vblank by default. :) I figured that was the issue. I'm marking this bug as fixed, reopen if you still get the problem.
