Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22

Unionfs breaks when on nfs.

root@kolera:~# mount -t nfs -o ro hh:/export/nfsroot.i386_ubuntu710 /mnt/nfs/
root@kolera:~# mount -t tmpfs tmpfs /mnt/tmpfs/
root@kolera:~# mount -t unionfs -o dirs=/mnt/tmpfs=rw:/mnt/nfs/live/filesystem.dir=nfsro unionfs /mnt/write/

If you ls /mnt/write then you hit a nullpointer (as shown in dmesg-postbugg.log) in the kernel, and if you df the filesystem you crash the whole kernel and reboot the machine.

(files will be attached as soon as i figure out how.)

This bug is a regression over the feisty kernel, where this worked perfectly.

This bug breaks FAI, which uses unionfs over nfs for the installation system.

This bug is fixed in linux-source-2.6.22 (2.6.22-11.32) due to change to 2.1 instead of old 1.4. Close this one and be happy =)

They broke it again. downgraded unionfs to 1.4 to make the live-cd's work.

This is a serious issue for us, since it causes FAI to break. We can't use 2.6.22 because it breaks unionFS, and we can't use earlier kernels because the driver for the new intel network cards isn't in there.

The status says "fix released" but the packages linux-image from gutsy are still broken. Using linux-source is not a real option. Is there any way to make this work?

linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22-14-generic 2.6.22-14.38 from gutsy-proposed fixes this problem for me. Have you tried that?
