I have tested my patch and it works as expected here.
I copied Rohan's method from this file: https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/utopic/casper/utopic/view/head:/scripts/casper-bottom/15autologin for the sake of consitency.

This makes the indentation a bit ugly, but the rest of the script is not much prettier imho.

Fixed indentation and added comment to be consistent with the rest of the script.

Untested, I'll do so later.

it appears to me that the patch needs to be made against the ubuntu user-setup bzr branch as ubiquity itself only pulls it into the tarball apparently

Okay diff is now against the user-setup bzr branch.
NOTE: patch-rev2 was broken and did not work.

Since shadeslayer wants logging I tried to simply put "$log" before the cat command without a chroot, but that broke the redirection and ended up in a empty file being written. The whole "$log $chroot $ROOT" thing as in patch-rev2 did not work either, so I en-quoted the whole thing and simply execute it in a shell inside the chroot, this is easy to understand and simply works.
Since testing this (though I have scripts to automate this) really sucks I hope this is now it.

hi, I have Kubuntu 14.10 and KDE 5 plasma, and I have been looking for a way to autologin - for example when I reboot, it does't ask for a password....Just goes rite into to the desktop.

How can I do this?''

I've tried sudo apt-get install Login Screen (login screen SDDM)

I run login screen SDDM
NOW I have something that has the auto login check box!

However, when I check the box..and Apply, then click ok...its not saving the changes, when I go back in, the box is unchecked.

I went back to one of my virtual machines that has 14.04 and plasma 4 on it...to the login screen, and enabled auto login and apply. When I go back in....it also does not save the setting. There has to be a way to have it auto login. I know there is because, I had it doing it on 14.04 and 14.10 (last week), before I formatted and started over.

I have ticket #255115 open on this, but, nothing has been resolved.

If there is a way to do this Please let me know...Thanks AJ

Also - up above I see

https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/utopic/casper/utopic/view/head:/scripts/casper-bottom/15autologin

Is this a config file? Is it modifying something existing or a new file?
If new, what should the file name be and where does it go ?

If modify and existing file,,,which file and where?

thanks AJ
