Polish date format is strange

Bug Description
After last upgrade of Gutsy date format in polish locale was changed from:
20 sie 2007 to 20 VIII 2007
It is very unusuall in Poland to use roman number formonth names.
The more common is the usuall three letter month acronyms like "lip", "sie" etc. like it was up to today.
Why it was changed to these strange roman numbers?
