Bug Description
Hi, I think we should leverage lock-free SHOW SLAVE STATUS as documented:

SHOW SLAVE STATUS NOLOCK
I do not know if this will cause an issue with MySQL Community Edition, Enterprise Edition, or MariaDB, so perhaps will have to do conditional based on detected server version?
