Bug Description

The Kubuntu team would like to ship with KDE SC 4.13 in Trusty.

Due to KDE's realigned schedule for the software compilation this no longer fits in easily with the Ubuntu release schedule getting its final tag on April 9th the day before final freeze.

To start with we'd like to upload 4.13 Beta 1 today.

A list of new features can be found at
http://techbase.kde.org/Schedules/KDE4/4.13_Feature_Plan

The only new package is astrometry.net needed by kstars to do image recognition of a photo of the sky.

Marble gets an ABI bump and adds its own libastro, its own astronomy library.

The biggest new feature is the change from Nepomuk semantic and search engine to Baloo. This is far more reliable and simple. It means dropping virtuoso as a database and swapping to xapian which is much more light weight and usable. Most applications have been ported to Baloo and we expect to drop Nepomuk features from those which have not which are currently Amarok, Digikam and Plasma Media Centre.

What testing of this has been done and in particular, are the current packages using baloo and how it the migration handled?

This should be decided asap, otherwise valuable testing time will be lost.

Agreed. Still waiting for answers about testing and baloo support/migration.

Sorry for delay, was working with upstream to get the migration running successfully.

Migration is handled by nepomukbaloomigrator binary which is part of nepomuk-core and gets run once after upgrade.

Testing is covered by our new comprehensive test cases, here's the relevant one for Plasma

It's all working from my tests with meta data and search data successfully retained. The exception is Dolphin filename search which is now patched upstream
