I don't remember when lightdm stopped working but I think it was since upgrading to gnome-3.10.2

If I remove everything in /var/lib/lightdm/ then lightdm starts.
# systemctl poweroff doesn't clean up the stale lock

Since you're compiling it yourself, would you mind trying the most recent release? (1.8.x)

@ochosi, I checked the release notes but didn't find the fedora patch applied.

Problem there was solved the same way as I did: removing /var/lib/lightdm/*

Thanks for your bug report, it sure would be nice if downstreams would report these issues and fixes upstream where they could be found. I'll work on rolling these fixes in now.
