Bug Description

Occasionally, I log into Unity and the mouse pointer is invisible. It can be moved around and clicking on things works, but there is no pointer.

If running 'gsettings get org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.cursor active' from the command line returns 'true' this is almost certainly the same bug as bug 1238410.

The default is 'true.'

@Stuart, can you verify this is the case?

Happens to me too.
I can confirm that the statement given by Stephen above returns true for me.

Is there a workaround for this? Any more information I can provide maybe?

Finally happened again, and can confirm for comment #4 that 'gsettings get org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.cursor active' returns true.

When I run:

gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.cursor active false

then the cursor reappears.

I am struggling with this issue since yesterday, after I run the updates on Ubuntu 14.04. So far the only workaround is to log on with a different desktop environment (e.g. Xubuntu). The gsettings tweak suggested here and in other places has no effect.

Note that this is not a duplicate of bug #1238410. In that bug report it is referenced that the mouse pointer reappears once the mouse is moved. In this particular bug the mouse never reappears.
