I purged ubiquity-plugin-ubuntuone package, and ubiquity launched from the untiy panel so I can confirm that that package breaks unity

I was unable to recreate this bug using Ubiquity version 2.5.18 from an Ubuntu amd64 Live CD. When the system booted, I choose Try Ubuntu and then was able to click ubiquity on the panel and the installer started. What flavor of Ubuntu are you using?

Similar issue. I use grub loop mount to boot ISO, so I did not know if that was issue. Could not get Ubiquity to start (or seem to). Tried rebooting ISO several times.
Then tried using commands in Icon's properties at command line and it said Ubuquity was running, but nothing was happening.
Then rebooted and changed command line from sh to sudo bash and it ran without issue.
The sh command in Icon did not seem to be launching shell but bash did?

I also use the loop-back method. When using Try Ubuntu, then trying to launch the Install icon, nothing happens. If I use the Install from the first menu, then Ubiquity finishes to completion.

Should be easy to see from any recent image (using a usb of todays amd64 here to check.
Has be going on since the sso plugin was enabled, affects the launcher icon, desktop icon if getting a live session with nautilus handling the desktop, & running ubiquity from cli or alt+f2

Note that ubiquity does start, it's just that no window ever appears

If ubiquity is started as root then the installer opens fine
If --no-sso is added to the .desktop Exec= then ubiquity opens fine.

If you goes to "Install Ubuntu" boot option, and quit it, it is possible to run ubiquity in ubuntu desktop without problem.

Actually, I just installed (yesterday) Ubuntu GNOME Beta 2 amd64 from a LiveUSB created by UNetbootin to a 8GB USB Drive and the installation done successfully and Ubiquity was working JUST FINE and YES, I have chosen: "Try Ubuntu GNOME without Installation" so from my side as per my tests, everything is fine. I haven't tested i386 Beta 2 yet though.

Thanks!

I've tried the Final Beta of Ubuntu 13.10 and this still is a problem. ubiquity will not show it's GUI upon clicking launcher icon or the one on the desktop and the process is active in System Monitor.

I'm using a loopback boot option for the 13.10 and the "Try Ubuntu without Installation" option.

Also when I kill ubiquity that I started in terminal with CTRL + \ there is this message:

^\Quit (core dumped)
umount: /var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/90-mandatory.d: not mounted

jerrylamos (jerrylamos) wrote :

My workaround is:
Ctrl-Alt-t
sudo killall -15 ubiquity
sudo ubiquity

Now I did get a message after the killall, I think it is on another of my pc's, which would indicate ubiquity is trying to
umount something that isn't mounted so it is stuck there. I'll see if I can find it.

I've had problems before (!) over the years with ubiquity tripping if there were other drives/partitions mounted (I have many), so before doing install I do
Ctrl-Alt-t
df
sudo umount -rl /dev/sda*
sudo umount -rl /dev/sdb*
df
to make sure nothing is mounted.

<stgraber> xnox: so it looks like bug 1226912 is caused by webkit (in the ubuntuone plugin) being somehow unhappy and ending up waiting for a lock when ubiquity is started as a normal user. Starting ubiquity as "sudo ubiquity" appears to workaround the issue.

Hello,

This bug still occours in daily build 20131009 amd 64bit iso.
After reading the other comments in another topic, i decided to remove the ubiquity-plugin-ubuntuone. It worked.

Currently installing.

PS: Before this attempt, i used the "Install ubuntu whatever" option of unetbootin. I was able to get ubiquity working but it failed after selecting the partitions ( saying the drive was busy over and over again )

This bug was fixed in the package ubiquity - 2.15.23

---------------
ubiquity (2.15.23) saucy; urgency=low

  * Attempt to remove oem user again in the oem-config/post-start, after
oem-config-first-boot setup has been completed. (LP: #1231166)
  * Load U1 Terms & Conditions page lazily when asked, instead of at U1
plugin import time. Thus the page will only be loaded once there is a
working internet connection and the user is signing up for U1. This
also resolves ubiquity failing to load when booting direct live user
    session. (LP: #1226912)
  * Instead of skipping u1 plugin when offline, display "No internet
connectivity" page and show the login later button. Thus avoiding
hanging when installing fully offline, and explaining why U1 login was
    not available. (LP: #1237694)
  * Run debconf-updatepo to actually update templates.pot and make all the
U1 page strings translatable. (LP: #1235192)
