Bug Description

We removed network-manager-gnome from the Ubuntu GNOME seed, since we no longer require nm-applet.

gnome-shell requires the network-manager dbus service to obtain network information (even when networking is manually configured via /etc/network). So we should recommend this from gnome-shell.

Right now networking on the live cd's and new install will be a bit broken!

Seems sense making to me.

Please forward to Debian, although I don't know if they can take it given the tech-ctte's ruling...

This bug was fixed in the package gnome-shell - 3.8.4-0ubuntu5

---------------
gnome-shell (3.8.4-0ubuntu5) saucy; urgency=low

  * debian/control.in: Add Recommends on network-manager since this
is required for network panel to work. (LP: #1225787)
