Bug Description

Using XMir, the mouse pointer visually lags behind my movements, slightly.

It's been observed that using the upcoming "bypass" branch helps this a lot. But the proper fix will come later when XMir can use Mir's hardware cursor.

Prerequisite fix: bug 1204505

I've been testing out the xubuntu xmir iso and each time I have noticed the mouse lag. I get used to it reasonably quickly, but it would be a game killer for gaming, and maybe even other areas which requires precise mouse movements (graphics design?). I hope the hardware cursor lands in time for 13.10.

David,

FYI, the lag is only in displaying the mouse pointer. Not in receiving input events. So this bug is not relevant to FPS type games where there's no X cursor to display.

Also, since bypass support landed this bug is almost imperceptible. And gaming performance is much closer to native X.

The mouse lag is really horrible here. Not sure if Xmir itself is just extremely slow, or where this is coming from.

XMir 1.0 (the old Xorg extension) is now deprecated and is not being maintained or fixed. It is replaced by the new 'Xmir' binary (package 'xmir') introduced in Ubuntu 15.10 wily.
