Bug Description

The "old" music store interface (which is embedded into Rhythmbox) will be taken down on the server soon. In order to deal with this expectation on 12.04 and 12.10, we'll want to remove the UI for this, from the rhythmbox-ubuntuone plug-in. This change will intentionally remove the UI, including some strings, but there are no new strings or UI that would need to be translated or documented.

I18n: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-translators/2013-April/005888.html

[Test Case]
After installation of the new package, the Ubuntu One item will no longer appear in the sources list tree in the left column of Rhythmbox. It will still however appear in the list of plug-inss, and be enabled by default. The music store will no longer be accessible here. However, with Ubuntu One running as the user, and with the "Purcahsed Music" folder set as subscribed in the Ubuntu One control panel, on the Folders tab,
any new purchases should automatically appear in Rhythmbox while downloaded. Also, the
plug-in will still ensure that the Purchased Music folder is set as an additional library path in Rhythmbox. This can be seen by expanding the "Music" entry on the sources list tree.

[Regression Potential]
Outside of the intentional removal of the Ubuntu One music store UI for purchasing songs from within Rhythmbox, there should be no other regressions, and potential for them is
very small.

So how would people continue to buy music on Precise and Quantal? Will they be directed to the new store in any way?

Dmitrijis, no they will not be redirected to the new web store, outside of the announcement that the new web store is the place to go.

Rodney, for an SRU this package needs an explicit test case. How do we verify that the package is functioning correctly after this change?

I've added the Test Case and Regression Potential sections. Sorry for the slowness to doing so.

Hello Rodney, or anyone else affected,

Accepted rhythmbox-ubuntuone into precise-proposed. The package will build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox-ubuntuone/4.2.0-0ubuntu0.0.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance!

You removed the shop from Rhythmbox without giving any notice to the user. I had to google this issue to find out what was wrong. /Now/ I know that I have to log in manually into ubuntuone.com to buy music.

Don't you guys care for user experience?

@Jan, it was announced in April 16th on the blog, and cross-posted to the ubuntuone-users mailing list, and on the Twitter, Facebook, and Google+ pages for Ubuntu One. OMG!Ubuntu posted an article the same day. That was two months ago. Plenty of notice.

If you have an issue with that, this bug report is not the place to discuss it. Feel free to contact Ubuntu One support at https://one.ubuntu.com/help/contact/ if you wish to discuss support issues.

@Rodney, this update didn't put any notice in the place where it belonged in the first place: in the application.

The package in precise-proposed indeed removes the store UI, and behaves as expected. It has been in precise-proposed for almost 5 months with no complaints about it failing to upgrade, install, or anything, either.
