Bug Description

Launcher tooltip delay is back and bigger (LP: #929485), but there’s no immediate hover feedback, making the Unity user wonder if Unity is not immediately responding to its input. So, Unity feels sluggish *again*.

See also LP: #804021 "launcher tooltip delay is useless and gives the impression as if the launcher is not responding".

I think some form of icon hover state (perhaps saturating, lightening, or changing the background glow graphic) would be in order. Did the design team specifically vote against this, or has it just never come up? Highlighting controls when hovered is so common in computing (and indeed, in Ubuntu) that its lack here seems puzzling.

Yeah, I second that. I have become so used to SOME sort of feedback when hovering over something that the complete lack in the Unity launcher makes it feel unresponsive.

I agree. Today infact I thought for a moment that unity was unresponsive since my currently running application went grey, and going over to the launcher gave no response leaving me thinking for a moment that I had to Ctrl+Alt+Backspace. I think the simplest way would be to use a similar hover effect as in most file managers when hovering over icons, perhaps even a quick animation to fade it in/out (should be quick to make it seem responsive).

I absolutely agree with mentioned thoughts. Want to see something on mouse hover.
