DmDr: Yes, the file is damaged.
 When opened with 'eog' it gives an error. However, nautilus displays the thumbnail and the file manager's quickview correctly opens it. Interesting ...
I don't know why this happens. Can someone plz explain ?
btw, I have fixed the file :)

It could just have the wrong extension. Maybe it's actually a jpg file with a png extnsion? Some programs will recognize the real format and still open it but others will try to use the jpg converter and fail.
