I can confirm this. Got the same annoyances after a failed dist-upgrade from edgy to feisty yesterday. Use a gartoon theme, can not change theme using gui.

Do you have a .gnomerc?

I feared a question like this. My PC burned last night, so I have to check the backup if there is any ".gnomerc". Will come back to this later this week.

No, there was no ".gnomerc".

Just for the records: After a complete new install of feisty, I got a similar behaviour. No more window frames, decorations of anything. No possibility to change any window settings because of a message concerning a window manager "unknown". Seems that Metacity died. I will search for its corpse.

/c.

Feisty is not supported anymore. Please reopen this report if this is still an issue in a later version of Ubuntu.
