In the 'Orage Preferences' window, the 'Sound Command' is set to 'play'. But with a clean install of Xubuntu 12.10, the play command is not installed.
Typing play into the terminal:
$ play
The program 'play' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install sox
