Bug Description

Hi-
I am writing because I have exectly the problem you've addressed in your User manual FAQ "my device is not being detected by app. I have followed your instructions, And spent hours searching the web for a solution and even more time talking to Kindle support, who'd never heard of a .mobi file. Poor guy. Anyway I hate to bother you. I am so grateful for all you do. but you're my last resort.
My son just sent me a new Kindle Fire HD (I've used the kindle since it first came out)!!! I used the USB cable enclosed and expected Calibre to see it right away and give me the device icon on the top menu so i could begin the transfer. no such luck. Is it the cable? what's the difference between the cable in the box ("USB charging cable") and a USB data transfer cable? research indicates there's no difference, so I keep coming back to this-
When connected to my Dell Laptop w windows 7 via usb cable received w the Kindle device, The Kindle does show up on my desktop BUT not as both you and Amazon indicate, as removable storage (with a letter designation) it shows as a portable device. NOT as you say it must be. The Kindle storage is there but is inside the Kindle Portable Device not showing on the computer as a stand alone external storage drive.
I have your very latest version. tried several cables. reran your start up wizard. did everything Amazon suggested. Grasped at as many straws as I could find. Amazon is certainly opposed to anyone having any ebooks that they didn't sell. I have been collecting my library for years and Am Nuts over calibre really addicted. I think I may enjoy managing my library as a close second to reading!
I love how the new Kindle screen helps me wiht my sight but back it goes if it doen't like my calibre books! Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi your my last hope.

I don't know what all this is but it is the only thing I could find to save and send you.
